As the fall semester comes to a close, I’m grateful for the chance to reflect on my first several months serving as President of the Vanderbilt Black Law Students Association. I officially began this role in May and since that time I have been proud to continue building upon BLSA’s legacy of academic excellence, professional development, leadership, and service in the community.

I am also deeply grateful to the entire BLSA Executive Board for their steadfast commitment to this organization and its members, particularly at a time when programs focused on diversity, racial justice, and equity in higher education have been under assault.

This semester, we:

✨ Hosted our 3rd Annual BLSA Career Fair at the Hutton Hotel, connecting VLS students with employers across private practice, government, and public interest;

✨ Met regularly with law school leadership to advance efforts around student body diversity and belonging;

✨ Partnered with VLS Admissions for our 2nd Annual Law School Preview Day, giving Black undergraduate and pre-law students an inside look at the admissions process;

✨ Organized our upcoming Black History Month celebration honoring the 70th anniversary of Black students’ admission to VLS;

✨ Held a wide range of academic, professional, and social events to support member success and strengthen our community; and

✨ Expanded our digital presence through “Day in the Life” Instagram takeovers and spotlights highlighting the accomplishments of our members.

With just a few months left in my term, I’m excited for what’s ahead this spring. Serving this community has been one of the most meaningful parts of my law school experience, and I’m honored to have been supported by my peers.
